World Vision International Nepal (WVIN) started a relief and emergency response in 10 of the 14 most-affected districts. It was followed by the recovery and rehabilitation phase. The recovery phase of response (October 2015 to September 2016)  was need  driven and focused on providing shelter support to returning families, livelihood assistance to help them get back on their feet, the reconstruction of schools and starting of primary education programs and mounting a rehabilitation effort after this.

The goal of the recovery phase was to meet the emergency needs, strengthen the resilience and self-recovery, and restore a sense of safety for earthquake affected children and their communities in Nepal. The program framework for the recovery phase was focused on building resilience through three key sectors: education, health and livelihoods. Infrastructure/shelter, WASH and child protection and GESI were identified as enabling sectors.
